About

Welcome to my blog: Performance matters.

If Bill Gates’ vision was “A computer on every desk”, mine is:

“Rewarding, Self-Actualizing, High Performance for Every Team”.

Why rewarding and self-actualizing? Because a team is made up of people – and there’s no point being in one if it is not rewarding and you feel it’s worth it.

Why High-performance?  I focus on the workplace.  There’s competition out there.  Teams must perform, or the business does not.  Besides, why would I bother to be on a team that does not perform to the best of its abilities?  I only have one life to live.

I am motivated by teams that work so well together, high performance is their daily routine.  I often see  knowledge unused and creativity thwarted because teams skills just don’t match up with knowledge skills.  I want to change that.  And I know from the people I meet that I’m not alone.  So I created this blog as a place for discussion and research in what makes a team perform.

My approach is through team leadership.

People want to contribute.  When they come to work, they want to know they are making a difference.  I believe -  and I have seen it – that team leaders hold the key to unleash that power.  Not just CEO’s -   but each and every individual who leads a team – be it only 3 people.

I write about ideas either developed in my work with technical team leaders or contributed by these same team leaders. I may write about their stories from time to time, in the hope that others find themselves in them.

About me:

I have had a succession of work experience that naturaly led me to focusing on high-performance technical teams: university professor (EE – photonics), engineering manager, sales manager, project manager, corporate executive (VP – engineering, sales, acquisitions), consultant/training. I have had great mentors and met fascinating people, working in Europe, Asia and America. (My bio is here on the company website).

I’m a sucker for a great vision.  I believe in people.  One of my bosses once told me: “The problem with you Norm, is that your too naive to know it can’t be done.”   I took it as compliment.

Wherever you are, whatever your path as been, or will be, you are welcome here, to read, or to contribute and create a vibrant learning environment.

I believe there is a “I” in team – in fact lost of them.  That’s why teams can be great!   And I believe that great team leaders can open the door for each “I”, each team members, to contribute at their best.

Thank you for visiting.
